DakArtNews

Bridging Africa and the World
through Contemporary Art

DakArtNews is a media and cultural organization based in Dakar, Senegal, dedicated to strengthening dialogue between Africa and the world through contemporary art.

Formally established in 2024 by art journalist and curator Remy Mallet, DakArtNews has evolved from an editorial platform into a multidisciplinary cultural organization working across journalism, documentation, international exchange and institutional partnerships. Through in-depth reporting, critical essays, interviews and audiovisual storytelling, DakArtNews documents the artists, ideas and cultural movements shaping contemporary Africa while creating new connections between African and global art communities.

CARAVAN's partnership with DakArtNews began in 2024, and is rooted in the shared belief that art is a powerful catalyst for dialogue, understanding and peacebuilding, and that sustained cultural exchange can create lasting relationships between Africa and the world. Together we develop editorial, curatorial and educational initiatives that expand opportunities for artists, strengthen cultural ecosystems and contribute to a more connected global arts community.

Our current partnership priority is the development of African Art Bridges, a long-term initiative designed to strengthen editorial, institutional and cultural connections between Africa and the United States through journalism, public programming and international exchange.

Founder

Remy Mallet is an art journalist, writer and founder of DakArtNews, a media platform based in Dakar, Senegal, dedicated to contemporary African, that has expanded into exhibition-making and curatorial programming. His work explores how narratives about art are shaped, circulated and received — and what it means to write about contemporary creation from within the continent.

Shaped by multiple cultural worlds, he sees art as a space for transformation, a way of forging new conversations between Africa and the world through contemporary creation. His editorial practice and critical writing engage questions of representation, cultural ecosystems and the many ways contemporary art travels across borders and between worlds.

Before settling in Dakar, Remy Mallet worked in Bonn, Germany, for the international broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW), navigating both Western and African media landscapes. This experience continues to shape his editorial perspective and his belief that contemporary cultural narratives become richer when different vantage points enter into dialogue.
