Mouhamad Jawad Ly was born into a family of artists and grew up immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of Dakar’s Village des Arts, often accompanying his father, the late artist Amadou DéDé Ly, in the studio.

 

In his Crocs series, Jawad Ly explores animals’ hibernation and rebirth after the rains. Inspired by the beauty and symbolic power of this natural moment, he reflects on how life awakens when the rain falls and nature turns green. Animals emerge from their long slumber, full of renewed energy, symbolizing rebirth, renewal, and joy. For Jawad, this theme goes beyond a natural phenomenon — it is a metaphor for overcoming challenges and starting anew. His deep connection with nature and animals fuels his artistic vision, reminding him of the power of creation, the gentle flow of time, and the beauty of new beginnings, all of which shape his expressive and sensitive approach to art.
