Djibril Coulibaly draws his inspiration from fingerprints — unique yet universal — a symbol of individuality and human connection that runs through all his work. Born in 1996 in Dakar, he grew up in the historic Medina neighborhood, near the Soumbédioune craft village, which he visited from a young age and which deeply shaped his artistic sensibility. He began sketching at eight years old, drawing from his surroundings and his deep spiritual reflections, and graduated from the Dakar School of Fine Arts in 2023, further refining his distinctive artistic voice.

 

In this Crocs painting series, “Roots”, Djibril invites us to stay grounded. While we admire a tree for its branches, it is the roots that give it life. Through this series, he explores identity, human interconnectedness, and the foundations that sustain growth, turning everyday objects into meditative reflections on our shared humanity.
