The Bridge, an East-West travelling art exhibition of 47 Arab, Persian and Jewish artists focusing on what we all hold in common, ended its 18-month worldwide tour in the state of Wyoming during the month of September 2016.
The original artwork was showcased in Laramie at the University of Wyoming’s Buchanan Center for Performing Arts, and exhibitions of reproductions were held concurrently in satellite venues in Rock Springs (Western Wyoming Community College), Lander (Lander Art Center) and Powell (Northwest College).
The exhibition opened in each of the four venues with a special program and reception, and at the four venues special guest speakers included the presidents of the universities/colleges, state political leaders such as Senator Dr. Bernadine Craft, religious leaders from different traditions such as Bishop John Smylie of the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming, community leaders such as Ms. Shannon Smith of the Wyoming Humanities Council, and national leaders such as Senator Alan Simpson. CARAVAN artists Dr. Reda Abdel Rahman from Egypt from a Muslim tradition and Ms. Lilianne Milgrom of Jewish background from Australia-France were also present at the openings.
Over the course of the month-long exhibition, numerous other programs were held in each of the four venues around the artwork addressing the theme of what bridges us to each other (artist’s talks, film screenings, book readings, forums, lectures, etc.), concluding with a Sufi concert by Amir Vahab & Ensemble.
