It is not only in today’s world that are we all intricately connected and interdependent.  Human beings have always been connected. As Persian poet Saadi (1210–1291) said 800 years ago:

“Human beings are members of a whole,

In creation of one essence and soul.

If one member is afflicted with pain,

Other members uneasy will remain.

If you’ve no sympathy for human pain,

The name of human you cannot retain!”

It looks like he composed this poem for our situation today. I was deeply impacted by this poem and I created a sculpture visualizing it. It contains a human body made of dozens of other individuals.
