The I AM exhibition opened on August 30, 2018 at Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery as part of its 16-month USA tour, running through October 10, 2018. 

 

Before being exhibited in Nashville, I AM premiered its global tour at the National Gallery of Fine Arts, Amman, Jordan in May 2017 and was subsequently showcased on London’s Trafalgar Square at the historic St. Martin-in-the-Fields and then at the American University Museum in Washington DC, The Center for the Arts in Jackson,Wyoming, Christ Church Cathedral, Cincinnati and at St Mark's Cathedral, Seattle TN. 

The official opening program and reception was held on August 30, 2018 at Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery. The special guest speakers were: Nicholas S Zeppos, Chancellor, Vanderbilt University, Joseph S. Mella, Director, Vanderbilt Fine Arts Gallery, Rev. Paul-Gordon Chandler, Founding President of CARAVAN and participating Bahraini artist Sheikha Lulwa Al Kahlifa.  An exciting schedule of 20 events and programs accompanied the I AM exhibition in Nashville during its running to stimulate discussion, dialogue and education, promoting further understanding.  The US Tour of I AM by CARAVAN is in partnership with Art Bahrain Across Borders (ArtBAB), the premier international art fair in The Kingdom of Bahrain.

SEPTEMBER 12, 2018, 6pm     

A  panel discussing the influential role of Middle Eastern women in the global arts community was held on September 12 at Vanderbilt University in conjunction with Nashville’s Faith and Culture Center.

The panel included Joseph Mella, director of the Vanderbilt Fine Arts Gallery; Nahed Artoul Zehr of the Faith and Culture Center; and Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Cornelius Vanderbilt Endowed Chair of Fine Arts.
